Day 16

Today was a very fulfilling day; I went to church this morning and was back there this evening for a Mountain Bel Air rally. It was nice to see many of the people who are planning on going to the new church and get some more information about it.
The weekend went by very fast but i am ready to see what this week is going to bring.

Day 15

Maryland received several inches of lovely snow yesterday and most of us tried our best to stay home. However, I ventured out in the cold to go to a friends house. The drive was an adventure and i'm glad I went. Once there we had a fun time trying on some dresses to prepare ourselves for modeling in a charity fashion show in March. We are currently collecting dresses (so if you would like to donate one or several please let me know) which we will be selling at the fashion show to girls who need something glamorous to wear. All of the money made will be going to Rapha House, an organization that rescues girls from Human Trafficking in Cambodia!

This is only the 2nd day where everyone's wearing a hat. Thanks Hank and Holl for helping with that.

Day 14

I designated today "Homework Friday" so can you guess what I did all day? You guessed it...Homework!!!! So that was pretty much the extent of my day.

A little piece of advice for those who are a bit squeamish: Do not watch the show "I Shouldn't Be Alive" on Animal Planet. Its really good but extremely graphic. They do dramatic reenactments of life threatening situations and it looks REALY real sometimes. Im watching one now and a young man was horrifically mulled by a bear in the mountains and should have died.

Day 13

My schedule was pretty packed today. I worked until 4 and then went to dinner with the family at Nana and Pop's. Nana cooked us an amazing dinner of chicken, baked carrots, bread, spinach, salad, and rice. And for dessert we had....Peach cobbler with ice cream and whipped cream and cowboy coffee. "mmMmmm good" *Campbell's Soup tune* For some reason i found the whipped cream especially appetizing tonight so I had a few mouthfuls. After dinner we showed Nana and Pop our Arizona pictures, which they seemed to enjoy.

Day 12

Well, for the first time since I started this I am truly speechless. I'm sitting here racking my brain for something to write about and my only solution so far is to write about how I don't have anything to write. Okay I have and Idea... I'll tell you the history behind the hat.
I was probably about 12 and my mom and I had dropped my brothers off at a science class (this was a weekly event). Instead of driving half
an hour home just to turn around and go back we would go to the library or go shopping. We went into REI so my mom could do some christmas shopping for my brother and I was browsing around. Thats when it happened. I saw the hat and at that point in my life it was the coolest hat i'd ever seen. I knew I had to have it. I wasn't usually the beggar type (or at least that's what I think, Mom would probably beg to differ), but what else was a 12 year old to do? I wasn't carrying a purse or even a wallet and I didn't have an income to pay my mom back with so I begged. I started with the subtle approach, talking about how cool the hat was but when my mom didn't seem at all interested I outright begged.
She kept saying that I didn't need it and that it was too expensive (if I remember correctly it was about $20). Needless to say I left the store that day with a very bad attitude, a grudge against my mom, and no hat.
A month later I opened it in my christmas presents! I acted delighted to finally
have the hat of my dreams but in reality I felt guilty for making such a big deal about it.
The Storal of the Mory is: Stuff is stuff, even though I am still very glad I finally received the hat in my christmas presents.

Day 11

Tonight was pajama night for small group which I love! Some dressed the part more than others but thats okay. It was really quite convenient because I stayed home all day so I was reeeally comfortable. Thank you very much Hank for my hat today! Its really warm and cute...I love snowflakes on beanies.

Mom and I invented a cookie receipt today...we had no milk or butter so we ended up using substitutes for both. They were oatmeal peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and we named them "Low Cow Cookies" because we didn't have any of the bovine products. They're pretty good though.

P.S. When I took off my hat just now I had the most horrible hat hair. Just thought I'd let you know.

Day 10

Only 20 days of hats left! Im 1/3 of the way through.
Im quite glad I was wearing a hat this morning for my first day of school because it was the nastiest weather. I woke up to howling wind and pouring rain and it stayed like that most of the morning. It was nice having a hat on my head to keep me dry from the rain.

Thank you to Sara for my hat today! Its really cute and I like it a lot!

Day 9

My dearest, Olivia was talking to me this morning and said, "Kenz, why are you wearing a hat to church"!? I then proceeded to tell her about my 30 days of hats. Now I know wearing a hat in church can be touchy because were supposed to take our hats off when we pray right? Check out 1 Corinthians 11. You can read it right here on biblegateway.com if you wish.
I was going to take my picture today with my friend Sara because she was wearing a hat and I mentioned yesterday that anyone wearing a hat would make it onto the picture of the day. The offer still stands! Unfortunately, she ran off before I could grab my camera. Instead I had the pleasure of having my picture taken with Rachel so that was quite a good trade off.

P.S. I bought the hat I wore today from an Aero outlet for only $2; i've gotten more than my moneys worth out of it!

Day 8

This morning Dad, Mr. Beard, and I went goose hunting. We made a new blind with some old christmas trees we'd been saving. Once it was thatched in it looked amazing! The geese were flying like crazy: I couldn't even begin to count how many hundreds of them there were. We saw a quite a few snow geese and some ducks too. We got our first 5 geese right away and after that we spent the rest of the morning calling them in for that last shot. Several good stories came out of the morning but I wouldn't be able to do them justice on here. Ask me sometime and I'll tell you one.
Real quick before I sign off I would like to note that todays picture is the first one where everyone is wearing a hat. Perhaps some other people will wear hats with me? Here's an incentive...If you see me around while you're wearing a hat then you'll be in that days blog picture. Exciting? Yes!
Hope you've had a wonderful Saturday!

Day 7

Yay, I've done a whole week of hats! After the first few days I felt like it was going to go really slow but now that the first week is over I think that the rest is gonna fly by.
Tonight I worked GNO (Girls Night Out) at church and it was tons of fun! The uniform for the servers was lime green shirts so I thought this green Jamaica hat from the Dixons would work great! Towards the end of the night a crazy balloon hat found its way toward me so i stuck it on over my other hat...two hats at once!!! Does that mean my forehead gets a day off? Anyways, I had a blast and Im absolutely exhausted. Tonight's picture is of some of the servers on stage next to a stack of presents (it was a birthday theme). Good Night!

Day 6

Today I wore one of my favorite christmas gifts from this year. Its a hat modeled after the classic sock monkey. Please, if you haven't been educated about sock monkeys them look them up! The hat is lined with fleece and therefore very warm!
I was walking out of work today and a co-worker saw my hat and said it was "The cutest thing" and continued to tell me that it made her day even though she had had a pretty crummy day.

I've found it amusing that many of the people who've had an interesting reaction about my hats are absolutely clueless thats there's so much more to it than just complementing a hat. They have no idea that they're ending up in this blog. Thought of the day: I wonder if i've ever made it into a strangers blog...
Comment if there's something you think i've done (or you) that could have made into someone else's blog.

P.S. Happy Squirrel Appreciation Day, New England Calm Chowder Day, and Hug Day!

Day 5

I wore an NRA hat today. It taught me that people treat me different when I am wearing it. The take me a lot more seriously and treat me with much more ironic. Isn’t that ironic…I wonder why?! For example, I was walking into a building to buy college books and an older man held the door open for me. He caught sight of my hat and complimented it with much enthusiasm. He was obviously an NRA fan himself and it made me smile.

Me, Holly, Liz, and Sarah worked out this evening to a lovely Jillian Michaels DVD. It was killer as always and I would highly recommend any of her workouts. I am proud to say that I wore my hat ALL DAY with the exception of during the workout it fell of during one of the exercises but I put it right back on.

Day 4

Before I talk about today I would like to clarify something: My brother asked me, what exactly categorizes as a hat? Well, The Dictionary definition is, “a shaped covering for the head worn for warmth, as a fashion item, or as part of a uniform”. Now when it comes to “a fashion item”, I am not going to be wearing any ridiculous old fashioned hats with stuffed birds and oversized feathers protruding from it. Well, I’m glad that’s been clarified!

Today, I stayed around the house trying to get my college courses squared up which was tedious and boring. On the bright side, we had our first small group of the year and I’m really excited for our last semester together!

My hat today is the 3rd hat I’ve ever made… many more have followed. It’s not perfect and not my favorite but its cute. My main picture for today is with my small group girlies but you can’t see my hat very well so I’m posting another picture that’s closer up. Enjoy!

Day 3

Today I was at Work most of the day so I wore my uniform hat. I am still trying to figure out what I'm doing to do next week because I cannot wear the same hat twice. Im debating just not following uniform for a day. Any Ideas for this?
Several of my co-workers commented on my hat and it also came in handy to shield my eyes from our blinding lights. Look at them for one second and your seeing it on your eyelids for the rest of the day!
Work was very busy today so I didn't get a chance to get a picture there but I snapped one when I got home.

Day 2

Today my hat was courtesy of Morgan! She gave it to me for christmas and I love it. I'm actually slightly sad that I can't wear it again until this is all over. I got quite a few compliments on it too.

After Church I went over to Holly and Sarah's house and we had a Game-A-Thon. We played Aggrivation, Sorry, Loaded Questions, Barenstain Bears Messy Room, and Jenga! It was tons of fun. Our Jenga game was actually really intense; it got really tall and really wobbly but finally fell.

Day 1

Today is the first day of my 30 Days of hats!

I am going to be wearing a different hat everyday, all day for the next 30 days.
Everyday I will be writing a bit about something that happened while I was wearing the hat and I will also post a picture from the day.

So, Day 1:
I hung out with Hank today and we went bargain shopping, to the gym (No, I did not wear the hat while I worked out), and out to dinner! :) It was a fun day. So, nothing super eventful happened today besides a lady at the gym mistaking Hank for my little sister but we quickly cleared up the confusion and all is well.
I'll be back tomorrow!
-Kenz
P.S. Today's hat was handmade by me
